REPOUCH, Crafting Health in the Backyard: Innovation of Rhizome Pouch from Family Medicinal Plants Accompanied by Community Service Program (KKN) Students and Pharmacy Program Study Lecturers, Faculty of Medicine, Diponegoro University

Nesianetwork.id - Bandungan Village, August 14th, 2024 – In an effort to improve community welfare through the utilization of family medicinal plants, Mooisy Nataly Siregar, a student of the Community Service Program (Kuliah Kerja Nyata) at Diponegoro University, carried out a work program titled "Optimization of Family Medicinal Plants (TOGA)" in collaboration with lecturers from the Faculty of Pharmacy, Faculty of Medicine, UNDIP. This program was conducted during the KKN in Bandungan Village, Jatinom District, Klaten Regency, and received positive responses from the local residents. This work program was implemented on August 1st 2024, with 32 members of the Women's Farmers Group participating (Kelompok Wanita Tani).

The program aims to empower the community in utilizing family medicinal plants as a source of alternative medicine. As part of this initiative, demonstrations and training sessions were held on how to create a product called "Repouch," a rhizome mix in a pouch that is expected to boost immunity and treat colds and coughs. In the socialization event, Mooisy, along with pharmacy lecturers Dr. Khairul Anam, M.Si, and Fitri Wulandari, M.Clin.Pharm., apt., provided knowledge about various types of medicinal plants that are easy to prepare and obtain, such as ginger, turmeric, temulawak, lemongrass, stevia, and lime. The training was enthusiastically attended by members of the Women Farmers Group (Kelompok Wanita Tani) and health cadres in the village.

Collaboration with pharmacy lecturers from the Faculty of Medicine, UNDIP, added significant value to this program. The lecturers not only provided theoretical knowledge about the benefits of medicinal plants but also practical knowledge on the simple preparation of traditional herbal drinks. This gave the community a more comprehensive understanding of the correct use of medicinal plants.

This work program successfully raised community awareness of the importance of family medicinal plants. Residents who previously lacked knowledge on how to utilize these plants are now more educated and motivated to process family medicinal plants in a simple yet effective manner. Additionally, some residents have started consuming TOGA to meet their family's health needs. As a follow-up, it is hoped that this program will continue with ongoing support from KKN students and pharmacy lecturers. Future plans include regular monitoring to ensure the program's sustainability and the optimization of benefits for the community.

This program not only succeeded in optimizing the use of family medicinal plants in Bandungan Village but also strengthened the relationship between the university and the community through constructive collaboration. It is hoped that programs like this can continue to be implemented in other regions to support independent and sustainable community health.

Zero Waste Program by KKN Undip: Tote Bag Painting for Elementary School Students in Kedungjeruk Village

Zero Waste Program by KKN Undip: Tote Bag Painting for Elementary School Students in Kedungjeruk Village

Nesianetwork.idOn Monday, July 29, 2024, I, Maria Verena Herwinata Putri, an English Literature student at Diponegoro University, held a zero waste-themed tote bag painting program at SDN 01 Kedungjeruk as part of the KKN (community service program) in Kedungjeruk Village. I believe that language skills and awareness of global issues, such as environmental protection, can go hand in hand. Therefore, when I had the opportunity to participate in this KKN, I felt compelled to use it as a means to teach children about the importance of environmental conservation, particularly through the concept of zero waste.

Teaching zero waste to children is part of our responsibility as the older generation to instill good habits from an early age. As an English Literature student, I am often exposed to various readings and discussions highlighting environmental issues at a global level, which ultimately made me realize that change must start with ourselves and should be instilled from a young age.

With that in mind, I designed a tote bag painting program themed around zero waste. I wanted the children to not just paint, but also understand the larger message behind it. Using reusable tote bags is a small yet important step in reducing plastic waste. Through this activity, I hope to convey that every individual, no matter how small, has a role in preserving the planet.

When I taught the children at SDN 01 Kedungjeruk about zero waste, I saw an opportunity to combine my love for language and literacy with my concern for the environment. I also hope that by introducing this concept in simple language and through creative activities, the children will more easily understand and apply it in their daily lives.

Therefore, this activity not only serves as a fun learning tool but also as a first step in building a younger generation that is environmentally conscious. I believe that the knowledge I have as an English Literature student can be an effective tool in conveying important messages about sustainability to children, so they grow up to be individuals who are aware of and responsible for the environment.

Beware of Illegal Online Loans: Diponegoro University's Community Service Program (KKN) Socializes the Dangers of Illegal Online Loans in Bandungan, Klaten

Beware of Illegal Online Loans: Diponegoro University's Community Service Program (KKN) Socializes the Dangers of Illegal Online Loans in Bandungan, Klaten

Nesianetwork.id -  Bandungan, Klaten (11 August 2024) - In recent years, illegal online lending has become an increasingly troubling problem for the community, especially among rural communities who still lack knowledge about digital financial services. Many residents are trapped in the trap of illegal pinjol with very high interest rates, inhumane collection, and theft of personal data.

The latest data on 11 June 2024, OJK has found 654 illegal online loan entities on a number of sites and applications. From these problems, Students of Real Work Lecture (KKN) TIM II Diponegoro University (UNDIP) 2024 majoring in Accounting carried out socialisation activities related to the rise of illegal online loans in Bandungan Village, Jatinom District, Klaten Regency. This activity aims to provide an understanding to the community about the dangers and risks of illegal online loans (pinjol), as well as how to recognise and avoid them.

This activity was carried out as a preventive measure to protect the residents of Bandungan Village from the negative impact of illegal pinjol. This activity began with a presentation on what online lending (Peer to peer lending) is, who are the providers of online loans, the difference between legal and illegal online loans, how to check the legality of online loans, and the risks faced by users of illegal pinjol.

In the socialisation, UNDIP KKN TIM II students explained that illegal pinjol are often not registered with the Financial Services Authority (OJK) and offer a very easy lending process without clear requirements. However, behind this convenience, there are great risks such as suffocating interest, unreasonable fines, and threats to personal data security.

In addition to the material presentation, students also distributed leaflets containing information on how to report illegal pinjol, how to check the legality of pinjol, and steps that can be taken if you have already been caught in the trap of illegal pinjol. The leaflet is expected to be a practical guide for the community to be more careful and not get caught in bigger financial problems. The women of Bandungan Village PKK were very enthusiastic in participating in this socialisation activity and hoped that they could be more aware of suspicious online loan offers.

Through this socialisation activity, KKN TIM II UNDIP 2024 students hope to make a real contribution in improving the financial literacy of the community and preventing them from the threat of illegal online loans that are increasingly prevalent. It is also hoped that this activity can be the first step for the people of Bandungan Village to be more careful and intelligent in choosing digital financial services.

Elevating Toga Srikandi as a Traditional Jamu Business Through Modern Branding by A Community Service Program (KKN) Student in Timuran, Surakarta

Elevating Toga Srikandi as a Traditional Jamu Business Through Modern Branding by A Community Service Program (KKN) Student in Timuran, Surakarta

Nesianetwork.id - As a vital component of Diponegoro University (UNDIP)’s curriculum, the Kuliah Kerja Nyata (KKN) program offers students a unique opportunity to apply their academic knowledge in real-world settings. This year, a focus on the traditional jamu business, Toga Srikandi, owned by Mrs. Sum, has highlighted the significant role that students can play in enhancing the sustainability of local small businesses.

Toga Srikandi, a traditional jamu business, has been facing challenges primarily due to a lack of promotional efforts and outdated packaging that fails to attract potential customers. Recognizing these issues, Nabiila Mega, a Business Administration student participating in the KKN program, initiated a revitalization strategy aimed at increasing the appeal of the business.

This program titled “Transformasi UMKM Melalui Revitalisasi Strategi Pemasaran dan Pembaharuan Kemasan” has some strategies, including redesigning the product packaging to give it a modern and appealing look, which is crucial in catching the eye of new customers. In addition, professional business cards were created to strengthen the business's marketing efforts, making it easier to connect with potential clients and partners.

“We've always relied on word-of-mouth and our loyal customers, but with this new packaging and the professional business cards, I believe we can reach a wider audience,” said Mrs. Sum after the project was completed.

This initiative hopefully will not only revitalize the branding of Toga Srikandi, but also sets a precedent for other traditional businesses in Timuran, showing that they can thrive in the modern market for selling heritage products.

BROUGHT FROM ASTER, WITH LOVE! A Community Service Program (KKN) by Undip Student on the Collaboration of Housewives in Aster Street for Snack Supplies in Timuran, Surakarta

BROUGHT FROM ASTER, WITH LOVE! A Community Service Program (KKN) by Undip Student on the Collaboration of Housewives in Aster Street for Snack Supplies in Timuran, Surakarta

Nesianetwork.id – As a way to bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world application, Diponegoro University (UNDIP) has long been a proponent of the Kuliah Kerja Nyata (KKN) program. This community service initiative, which translates to 'Real Work Lecture,' is an integral part of the university's curriculum, designed to empower students with practical experience while contributing to the development of local communities. Each student is required to step out of their classrooms and blend into various societal settings, applying their knowledge to tackle real-life challenges. This year, a student majoring in Business Administration, has taken on the mission of revitalizing a small traditional snack business, showcasing the profound impact of the collaboration of academic and community.

Traditional snack businesses face several challenges nowadays that might decrease their chance to survive nowadays, and one of the reasons is the lack of initiative in business strategies and not enough developments in their branding. Realizing this issue, Nabiila Mega, a student who’s taking her part in the second team of KKN UNDIP 2023/2024, is taking a step further and helping the small businesses in RW 1, Timuran.

Originally, there are a few housewives who have small businesses to supply snacks to a bigger store. With some discussions and advice, it has been concluded that the snack business owners in RW 1 would operate better if they gather together and start accepting large orders managed by themselves under one corporation. And to complete the innovation, Nabiila also designed a new catalogue of their menu choices in order to introduce their products better to the potential customer. This makes the participants named Mrs. Cicilia and Mrs. Yuyun were very excited on this merger project named “Pengembangan Ulang Inovasi Model Bisnis dan Optimalisasi Product Knowledge Pada Konsumen”

“I am very thankful for the help to upgrade my business into a more modern way to keep up with the competitors. This would be so helpful” said Mrs. Cicilia after the project presentation.

And with this development, there is great hope that Aster Snack would become a pioneer in the progress of other MSMEs and have a positive impact on the economy of Timuran.

UNDIP Students Socialize Indonesian Culture with Batik and Traditional Cooking in the Netherlands

Nesianetwork.idNijmegen, Netherlands (27/09/2023) a Diponegoro University (UNDIP) student named Meyndi Christy took part in the student exchange program, Indonesia International Student Mobility Awards (IISMA), contributing to socializing Indonesian culture through the introduction of batik and traditional dishes that are open to local and international communities.

Together with 14 other IISMA Radboud Universiteit (RU) awardees, everyone in the team ensured that the event ran smoothly, including cooking the food, serving it, and socializing with the participants who came. Collaborating with the local student community, Meet and Eat, the IISMA team successfully held a social campaign event aimed at providing community service in providing food at affordable prices as a way to introduce rich culture through traditional Indonesian culinary delights.

Before leaving for the Netherlands, Meyndi was assigned as one of the event coordinators, along with 3 other awardees, who was responsible for implementing event ideas, overseeing planning, coordinating and monitoring divisions, and acting as a liaison/contact-person with collaborative partners. The process which took almost a month has succeeded in getting 50 participants in the event, with a strong interest in learning about Indonesian culture through culinary delights.

With the theme, Indonesian Night, the social campaign served traditional cuisine consisting of 3 consecutive dishes, made a presentation, and ended with a game of Kahoot for all event participants. Each dish is rich in culture, including a variety of fried foods (bakwan, stuffed tofu, tempeh), gado-gado, chicken satay and martabak.

The event continued by providing presentation material regarding the historical aspects of batik, food dishes, and the importance of being active in broadening your knowledge of other cultures. All IISMA awardees also wore batik clothing to represent Indonesian culture, each material showing off the beauty and pride of batik prints from their own country.

From this valuable experience, it is hoped that in order to preserve Indonesian culture, we must propose a strong initiative to share knowledge and strengthen relationships with various communities locally and internationally. So, a culture that is very rich in culture will always be a legacy that can be proud of from generation to generation, even to people all over the world.

Cultural Exchange: UNDIP Students Spread Indonesian Culture by Teaching Semarang Gambang Dance in Glasgow

Cultural Exchange: UNDIP Students Spread Indonesian Culture by Teaching Semarang Gambang Dance in Glasgow

Nesianetwork.id - Spreading Indonesian culture in foreign countries is one of the goals of Melvinka Najla, a Diponegoro University (UNDIP) student participating in the student exchange program, Indonesia International Student Mobility Awards (IISMA). Through this program, Melvinka succeeded in performing and teaching the traditional Gambang Semarang dance in Glasgow, Scotland.

Of course, this success cannot occur without thorough preparation. Before leaving for Glasgow, Melvinka, together with 3 other IISMA University of Glasgow (UofG) awardees had prepared the Semarang Gambang Dance performance with regular practice. Apart from training, Melvinka has also prepared items that will be given to Gambang Semarang dance training participants. These items include batik cloth and scarves. Together with these items, Melvinka has also prepared a pocket book containing information about Indonesia, Semarang, and of course the Semarang Gambang dance.

On October 30 2023, the "Heroes Horas" event, which is an Indonesian cultural exhibition and performance event, was held by all IISMA UofG awardees at the Glasgow University Union (GUU), Glasgow, Scotland. At this event, the Gambang Semarang dance was successfully performed by Melvinka along with 3 friends in front of UofG students and staff. Apart from the dance performance, the IISMA UofG awardees also performed traditional Indonesian songs and also showcased Indonesian culture through prepared booths, such as typical Indonesian food and drink booths, batik coloring booths, and typical Indonesian craft booths.

Through this performance, several students who were interested in learning more about the Gambang Semarang dance were invited to take part in dance training. In the end, 4 UofG students took part in the Gambang Semarang dance training. From this dance training, participants learn about dance movements, the history of dance, and also the clothes worn when dancing. Apart from that, participants were also given material about Indonesia and Semarang to go through prepared presentations.

From this experience, Melvinka has high hopes that Indonesian culture can continue to be preserved and can be known on an international scale.

IISMA has provided Indonesian students with an excellent opportunity to get to know Ireland, its people and its culture. Ireland’s educational institutions give Indonesian students an excellent education in an English-speaking European environment, while living in Ireland will give Indonesian students the opportunity to study in a multicultural environment and connect with students from all around the world.
The Embassy of Ireland strongly supports IISMA and will maintain and strengthen its links with Indonesian students after they return home.

With around 20,000 Indonesian students enrolled in Australian universities each year, education is a key element of the Australia-Indonesia relationship.Australia sets the standard for excellence in education internationally, and our universities and TAFEs are committed to equipping Indonesian students with practical knowledge and skills to help them succeed and meet the needs of today’s workforce. The Australian Embassy acknowledges the valuable role of IISMA and looks forward to continuing to work together for the benefit of Indonesian students for years to come.

Dr. Desra Percaya
The Embassy of Republic of Indonesia to the United Kingdom, Ireland, and IMO London

IISMA is very beneficial not only for the awardees, but Indonesia in general. Ambassador Owen Jenkins
The British Ambassador for Indonesia and Timor Leste

I am delighted that Kemendikbud initiated this student exchange programme as a part of its Kampus Merdeka initiative; with the aim of increasing students’ knowledge, soft skills and cross cultural understanding. Student networks between Indonesia and the UK are already active, this will develop them further. The UK has 18 of the world’s top 100 Universities, including 4 of the top 10. The UK has 72 of the world’s 200 most international universities - more than any other country. Teaching excellence and this unrivaled international environment have made the UK one of the top study destinations for Indonesian students. I am grateful that Indonesian students entrust the UK with their personal, academic, and professional development. Each Indonesian student not only has a great time in the UK, but has the power to help build the bridge between Indonesia and the UK on their return to Indonesia. Few things are more important to a society than the education of our young. The pandemic has made this challenge even more critical. I Hope IISMA can continue to provide opportunities for Indonesia students to study in the UK, and to advance our education cooperation.

This is How Rise and Fall Zenius Edtech Startup from Indonesian into Bankruptcy

This is How Rise and Fall Zenius Edtech Startup from Indonesian into Bankruptcy

Nesianetwork.id - The approximate news comes from the world of Startup Edutech, Zenius, which has been established since 2004, announced the temporary suspension of its operations in an official statement circulating on social media X aka Twitter.

After 20 years of existence accompanying thousands of students in studying at elementary, middle school, high school, UTBK, independent exams and preparation for entering college, in fact they had to give up because of the conditions.

The fall of Zenius as an edutech startup adds to the long list of collapses of several similar startups after the previous startups Pahamify and Refocus.

Analysis of several reasons why Edutech startup Zenius went bankrupt

Now let me try to analyze why Zenius, which has been around for 20 years, finally collapsed.

1. Large operational expenses
As stated in its statement, Zenius stated that it was experiencing operational challenges. This can be caused by an imbalance between the income coming in and the operations that have to be spent.

It could be because of the large costs for employee salaries since entering a technology-based company or startup which has become an open secret requiring large salaries and a large number of employees.

2. Many personal course competitors
In an era with the convenience of technology and the development of social media, almost everyone has the same opportunity to express creativity, including sharing knowledge.

The presence of personal trainers or experts who share knowledge via various platforms such as YouTube, TikTok, Instagram can also be a competitor.

The choice is not only to go through an edu tech startup but you can increase your skills through webinars, boothcamps or training held by personal trainers.

3. Tech winter
Tech winter is a term that describes a period of significant decline in the technology industry.

Whether we admit it or not, Tech Winter also plays a role in the collapse of many startups, including those operating in the edu tech field. Venture Capital and investors are no longer too busy providing funding because the world economic situation is sluggish and tends to lead to a recession.

If previously startups easily obtained various series of funding for growth, now VCs are more selective and profit-oriented. When startups run out of capital for operations while profits are not enough, what happens is just waiting for the time to run out of capital is like a vehicle waiting to break down when the fuel runs out.

4. The trend of pursuing growth
In the heyday of startups, most were oriented towards growth or growth to increase valuation. Hoping that in this way they can make a profit or exit by increasing the company's valuation and IPO on the stock market.

Unfortunately, before they succeed in getting listed on the stock exchange, the majority of startups that go bankrupt run out of funding because of a mindset that can be said to be wrong, namely only pursuing growth without pursuing profits.

5. Money burning trend
Readers certainly still remember how startups offered discounts and various promotions that sometimes didn't make sense. We once enjoyed it when motorbike taxi and food applications were at their peak.

Just so you know, the promos and discounts they provide are not free because they use money from investors. The term is burning money for customer acquisition or increasing the number of users.

Before the investment funds run out, you should start looking for profits as Gojek, Tokopedia and Shopee have done for example, so don't be surprised if now there are rarely big promotions, postage is expensive and there are even service fees.

Most startups that fail, before they reach the stage of making a profit, have burned all their capital for promotions.

6. Online learning trends after the pandemic
During the pandemic where schools and campuses conducted online learning, edu tech-based startups found momentum to experience significant growth because they were very relevant and needed by many groups.

Readers will still remember how massively they carried out promotions, making big shows on national TV stations during primetime broadcast times which must have been very expensive, even voting for dangdut competition events via edutech applications because they wanted to catch up with user growth.

In 2020 and 2021, in the midst of a pandemic, many startups were blessed with funding and an increase in the number of users. At that time, they thought that after the pandemic, the habit of accessing online learning would continue to increase or at least be the same.

Unfortunately, as we know, after the pandemic, this habit did not last, learning was carried out offline again and this definitely had an impact on the decline in users of edu tech startup applications and services.

Investors had already spent a lot of money during the pandemic for promotions, in fact the results did not match predictions, so layoffs became the solution until bankruptcy occurred as we have often read recently.

2. In 2021 South Sulawesi Education Service

3. In 2022 Popular Vote Global Edtech Startup Awards (GESAwards)

Ok that's our post this time, this disclaimer is a personal opinion, it may be true, but it doesn't rule out the possibility that it is wrong. If I may give advice, with the many cases of bankruptcy and the collapse of various startups specifically in the field of edu tech, it is best not to rush into accepting large investments in the style of venture capital, growing organically from the profits obtained is much healthier for a business than just joining in. the trend of pursuing growth by burning investor money. Hopefully it's useful see you.

From TechCrunch: Tech for Palestine launches to provide tools to help support Palestinians

Nesianetwork.id - More than 40 founders, investors, engineers and others in the tech industry are today announcing a coalition called Tech for Palestine to build open source projects, tools and data to help others in the industry advocate for the Palestinian people.

The launch of the group comes during a tense time in the region. Hamas’s October 7th attack on Israel led to the deaths of more than 1,100 individuals. The war in the Gaza Strip that followed has seen the displacement of millions of Palestinians and tens of thousands of deaths.

The Israel-Hamas war has proved divisive to the tech industry. Israel, home to a well-known technology and startup market, has seen strong support from tech individuals and institutions. In contrast, calls for ceasefires and speaking in support of Palestine have caused some to lose their jobs.

Paul Biggar, the founder of Tech for Palestine, hopes to raise more awareness of the war in Gaza, fight for a permanent ceasefire and provide ways for those who are afraid to speak publicly in support of Palestine to still offer support. It is one of the first tech initiatives to take a public stance supporting Palestine and could represent a turning point in the venture industry’s posture regarding the Israel-Hamas conflict as more people seek to speak out in favor of a ceasefire.

Biggar, the founder of the company CircleCI — last valued at $1.7 billion — formed the coalition after writing a viral blog post that criticized the lack of support the tech industry has shown Palestinians. He said that after he wrote his blog post, thousands of people reached out to him with words of support, many of them afraid to speak up themselves for fear of potential career impacts.

Among them, he said, were “dozens of people not only speaking up but who had started projects to change the industry to ensure that people speaking up for Palestine could be heard. Dozens of others were volunteering to help,” Biggar added. “I started connecting these folks together, and the [Tech for Palestine] community came together very quickly.”

The platform, still in its early days, will feature projects run by small groups and serve as a place to share resources and advice, something many pro-Palestinian tech workers are already doing privately. It has already secured names like Idris Mokhtarzada, founder of the unicorn Truebill, to help build out the platform. So far, it has created a badge for engineers to use on GitHub that calls for a ceasefire and created HTML snippets for people to use on their websites to put up a support ceasefire banner.

Biggar said there are plans to eventually work more with Palestinian organizations and help Palestinian startups with mentorship and cloud credits. TechCrunch previously reported that the war has destroyed much of Palestine’s burgeoning tech industry.

Arfah Farooq, founder of Muslamic Makers, said the last three months have changed everyone in many ways. At the same time, there has been a togetherness and activism that she has never seen before. “I’ve seen firsthand people come together to work for Palestine with nothing but their laptops from across the globe,” she said.

She decided to work with Tech for Palestine after reading Biggar’s viral blog post and has already started to share resources on how to support Palestine. “Due to the siege, we can’t go to Gaza and help on the ground, but we help regardless of where we are in the world,” Farooq said.

One engineer, who asked to remain anonymous, decided to join the coalition because this person felt suffocated at work. This person has agreed to work as an engineer and product manager to help build resources for Tech for Palestine, saying, “I hope this initiative will spark a significant shift and give people their voices back.”

A former tech brand marketer, who is also scared to speak out publicly for fear it will impact a new job search, also told TechCrunch about feeling happy to have a way to get involved with the cause.

“This period has been incredibly isolating to Arabs, Muslims and other people of color in VC and tech,” she said. “Tech for Palestine is a necessary initiative. When we are seeing mobilization around the world and the U.S. in the numbers of hundreds of thousands calling for peace and [the] humanization of the Palestinians, the tech community can no longer be silent.”

The Tech for Palestine initiative comes as the death toll among Palestinians continues to rise. In recent weeks, U.S. officials have reportedly prodded Israel to do more to protect civilians in Gaza even as they have called U.S. support for Israeli security unshakable.

Biggar hopes, at the very least, that this new coalition will augur a larger shift in people speaking up.

“The narrative has only just turned,” he said. “We are working to enable many more who feel silenced to speak out, we are only getting started.”
