I am delighted that Kemendikbud initiated this student exchange programme as a part of its Kampus Merdeka initiative; with the aim of increasing students’ knowledge, soft skills and cross cultural understanding. Student networks between Indonesia and the UK are already active, this will develop them further. The UK has 18 of the world’s top 100 Universities, including 4 of the top 10. The UK has 72 of the world’s 200 most international universities - more than any other country. Teaching excellence and this unrivaled international environment have made the UK one of the top study destinations for Indonesian students. I am grateful that Indonesian students entrust the UK with their personal, academic, and professional development. Each Indonesian student not only has a great time in the UK, but has the power to help build the bridge between Indonesia and the UK on their return to Indonesia. Few things are more important to a society than the education of our young. The pandemic has made this challenge even more critical.
